Rodri was absent from Manchester City’s training session on Wednesday as Pep Guardiola’s squad prepares for the new season.
The Spanish midfielder returned to the Etihad later than his teammates following a demanding two-year period.
His campaign ended with a hamstring injury sustained in the European Championship final last month.
Despite being named the tournament’s best player, Guardiola chose not to rush Rodri back into action, making him the only player unavailable for selection in City’s opening Premier League match against Chelsea.
City secured a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge, with Mateo Kovacic impressing in the holding midfield role.
To bolster their midfield, City have reached an agreement to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona on a free transfer.
This move is expected to ease the burden on their star midfielder.
Rodri’s absence from Wednesday’s training session was notable, though Savinho participated fully after recovering from an injury scare.
The Brazilian, who was substituted at halftime during his first start due to a challenge at Stamford Bridge, seems set to be available for this weekend’s game.
City will host Ipswich on Saturday and face West Ham next week, just before the September international break.
Rodri will miss Spain’s first match after UEFA reprimanded him for a chant he sang during the team’s summer celebrations.
