Sepp van den Berg is on the verge of completing a transfer to Brentford from Liverpool, with a medical scheduled imminently, according to The Athletic.
The 22-year-old centre-back is set to leave Anfield permanently, with Brentford agreeing to a £25 million deal for his services.
Van den Berg, who had also attracted interest from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, look poised to become Brentford’s fourth signing of the summer.
His departure will leave Liverpool head coach Arne Slot with Virgil van Dijk, Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konaté, and Joe Gomez as his remaining central defensive options for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
However, Gomez’s future at the club remains uncertain after he was excluded from the matchday squad during Liverpool’s opening-day victory at Ipswich Town.
Fellow centre-back Nat Phillips is also likely to leave Anfield before the transfer window closes, having garnered interest from Turkish side Trabzonspor earlier this summer.
While Liverpool have yet to make any signings during the current transfer window, Brentford have been more active.
Van den Berg’s arrival will follow that of Fabio Carvalho, who also joined from Liverpool earlier in the month, along with new recruits Igor Thiago and Ji-soo Kim.
Van den Berg initially signed with Liverpool in 2019 for £4.4 million from Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle.
The Netherlands youth international made four senior appearances under Jurgen Klopp but spent most of his time out on loan at Preston North End, Schalke, and Mainz.
Elsewhere, Bobby Clark has completed a permanent transfer to Red Bull Salzburg, pending international clearance.
The 19-year-old midfielder leaves Liverpool after three years at the club, joining the Austrian Bundesliga side.
Clark initially signed with the Reds from Newcastle United in August 2021 and made his senior debut a year later, coming on as a substitute during Liverpool’s 9-0 home victory against AFC Bournemouth.
In total, Clark made 14 appearances for Liverpool, including a memorable substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup final triumph over Chelsea at Wembley in February.
The midfielder also found the net in a Europa League tie against Sparta Prague at Anfield last season.
Now, Clark embarks on a new chapter in his career with Salzburg, where he will reunite with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
After putting pen to paper, Clark said: “I am pleased to be taking this step in my career, and I can hardly wait to get out onto the pitch with my new team-mates.
“It is the perfect move to the perfect club for me.
“I saw at Liverpool the kind of players that are developed in Salzburg like Sadio Mane and Dominik Szoboszlai, and they were a big inspiration for me.
“Everyone knows how great the prospects are for young players here.
“I also know Pep Lijnders from Liverpool, of course, and the fact he is the coach here influenced my decision.”
Sporting director Bernhard Seonbuchner added: “Bobby Clark is a highly talented player with huge potential, who will improve further with us due to his ability.
“He has developed mostly at Liverpool, has played in the first team there and knows our coach well, as a result.
“That is definitely a reason we have managed to sign Bobby for FC Red Bull Salzburg.”
