Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised for a significant new contract, whether it’s with Liverpool or a new club like Real Madrid, according to the Mirror.
The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his current contract with Liverpool.
With the club undergoing a transitional phase – following Jurgen Klopp’s departure and the appointment of Arne Slot as the new manager, as well as the arrival of Richard Hughes as sporting director – contract negotiations have yet to gain serious momentum.
This situation allows Alexander-Arnold the opportunity to sign a pre-contract agreement with another team as early as January.
Alongside teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah, he is eligible to explore options outside Liverpool.
Real Madrid, the reigning European and La Liga champions, have shown increasing interest in acquiring the right-back on a free transfer.
Similar to their approach with Kylian Mbappe, Madrid is expected to offer Alexander-Arnold a substantial signing-on bonus and a lucrative salary.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster believes that this potential offer will strengthen Alexander-Arnold’s negotiating position with Liverpool.
Discussing the matter on his YouTube channel, Foster stated: “You have probably £600k-a-week there between Van Dijk and Mo Salah alone, them two.
“About Trent Alexander-Arnold, he knows that if he signs a new four, five-year contract, he is straightaway a £100million asset.
“If somebody wants to buy him when he signs a new contract, it’s £100m minimum, absolute minimum.
“But Trent knows that, so he can say, right, you make me the highest-paid player in the Premier League and I will sign a new contract.
“And I could see that happening as well.
“He could hold out for it because if he goes on a free transfer to Real Madrid, he’s getting £400k, £500k-a-week, he will.”
Arne Slot, meanwhile has clarified his position on the ongoing debate about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s best role, emphasizing that his primary focus is on “bringing the best out of the team.”
Alexander-Arnold’s role has been a major topic of discussion since Slot became head coach, particularly given the changes to the right-back’s position under Jurgen Klopp.
“I think a position for players is always related to the team,” he said.
“It’s also my aim to bring the best out of the player, but the first aim is to bring the best out of the team.
“It helps if you also bring the best out of a player then.
“Trent is known for playing as a right full-back, for all his life I think, and when he was a youngster he played in midfield.
“In the modern game, you see a lot of full-backs going into the midfield, that is what he did last season once in a while, and I saw him playing at the Euros in midfield.
“So I think he’s capable of playing both positions really good, and then it’s up to me where I think he could help the team the most.”
