PSG leave two stars out of matchday squad as they close in on Premier League moves
Manuel Ugarte and Carlos Soler are expected to move to the Premier League this summer
Manuel Ugarte and Carlos Soler are edging closer to Premier League moves after being excluded from Paris Saint-Germain’s squad.
The pair will not feature in Friday night’s home match against Montpellier as PSG aim for back-to-back Ligue 1 victories this season.
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Uruguayan midfielder Ugarte to provide competition for Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo.
United had a bid for the 23-year-old turned down by PSG in July, but talks are now believed to be at an advanced stage, with a deal potentially reaching £51 million.
PSG are keen to recoup the £51 million they paid for Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
This marks the second consecutive Ligue 1 match that Ugarte has been omitted from PSG’s squad, indicating a likely move to Old Trafford.
If Premier League outfit United successfully secure Ugarte, their summer spending would exceed £200 million.
So far, they have spent around £150 million on new signings, including Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee, and Noussair Mazraoui. Meanwhile,
Ugarte’s teammate Soler seems set to join West Ham, potentially becoming their 10th signing of the window.
A £20 million fee is reportedly close to being agreed between the Hammers and PSG for the 27-year-old.
Soler has been with PSG for the past two seasons, winning consecutive Ligue 1 titles, but has been deemed surplus to requirements by Luis Enrique.
Vitinha, Warren Zaire-Emery, and Fabian Ruiz are preferred options in midfield.
Soler has scored just five goals in 50 Ligue 1 appearances but is highly regarded by West Ham’s new manager, Julen Lopetegui, who is keen to bring him to east London.
Premier Leagu side West Ham have been active in the transfer market this summer, spending close to £150 million on nine new signings, including Max Kilman, Niclas Füllkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luis Guilherme.
They have also acquired centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo on an initial loan, and signed Guido Rodriguez, Wes Foderingham, and Mohamadou Kante on free transfers.
