Scott McTominay close to completing move from Manchester United to Napoli

Scott McTominay is reportedly on the verge of completing a transfer from Manchester United to Napoli.

The 27-year-old midfielder has spent his entire career at Old Trafford, joining the United youth system at the age of five.

As a result, McTominay is currently counted as a homegrown player within United’s Premier League squad.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, the two clubs are now close to finalising a deal that would see McTominay depart Manchester United for Italy.

Napoli are expected to pay a transfer fee in the region of €30 million (£25.4 million).

The Athletic reports that Napoli have now agreed to sign McTominay from Manchester United, with the transfer fee set at approximately €30 million (£25.4m).

The deal is contingent upon all parties reaching a consensus on the player’s personal terms.

Additionally, Manchester United will retain a share of any future transfer fee from the Italian club.

McTominay, who is contracted with United until 2025, also has an option for a 12-month extension.

Therefore, further negotiations are required to finalise the agreement with the midfielder.

As a product of United’s academy, McTominay’s sale would represent ‘pure profit’ for the club, which is particularly valuable in the context of meeting Premier League and UEFA financial regulations.

Manchester United already have a potential replacement in sight, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte emerging as a target.

The sale of McTominay could help facilitate this move.

Scott McTominay has appeared as a substitute in all three of United’s matches this season, with his latest appearance coming in the 2-1 defeat against Brighton on Saturday.

Interestingly, fellow Scotland international Billy Gilmour, who played for Brighton in that match, has also been linked with a potential move to Napoli.

However, it appears McTominay has emerged as the Italian club’s top midfield target.

Napoli, who finished 10th in Serie A last season after winning the title the year prior, have already strengthened their squad this summer, securing the signings of Leonardo Spinazzola, Rafa Marin, Alessandro Buongiorno, and David Neres.

In addition, Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is also close to finalizing a move to the club.

The Uruguayan has yet to feature in PSG’s first two Ligue 1 games this season, having expressed his desire to join the Red Devils.
