Liverpool reach full agreement sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili

Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to undergo Liverpool medical this week

Liverpool have reached a full agreement to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Mamardashvili is set to join the Reds, though he is not expected to arrive at Anfield until the summer of 2025.

He will undergo a medical ahead of completing a move to Liverpool on Monday.

The 23-year-old has reached a full agreement with the club, marking a step forward in Liverpool’s succession planning.

For the current season, Alisson will remain Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper.

However, Mamardashvili’s future arrival could be part of the club’s long-term strategy.

The Georgian international, who is eight years younger than Alisson, made a significant impact at Euro 2024, leading the tournament in saves with 29 and helping Georgia reach the last 16.

He also kept 13 clean sheets in LaLiga last season.

Liverpool are the only Premier League club yet to make a signing this summer.

They had initially hoped to acquire midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but he chose to remain at Real Sociedad.

Romano posted on X: “Giorgi Mamardashvili to Liverpool, here we go!

“Medical today for Georgian goalkeeper as he’s joining #LFC from Valencia.

“The agreement for €35m package plus sell-on clause will be signed now but he will join Liverpool in July 2025.

“This season he’s staying in Valencia.”

Valencia manager Rubén Baraja earlier assured that Mamardashvili remains committed to the club despite ongoing speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool.

“It’s very simple,” he said.

“He’s our player, and as long as there is no other different situation, I’m not going to evaluate anything.

“He’s here, he’s ready to participate.

“We can’t talk about situations that haven’t happened yet.”

Last week, Alisson Becker, the club’s current No. 1 goalkeeper, confirmed that he had been consulted about the club’s pursuit of Mamardashvili.

He expressed his support for the plan, emphasizing that he is fully on board with the club’s efforts to secure the long-term future of their goalkeeping department.

“I think the club needs to prepare for the future,” Alisson said.

“We are not going to last forever here, I am getting old!

“No, for a goalkeeper I am still young, I have a lot of energy and I still have much to give for this club and I want to give to the club as much as I can.

“But they have to prepare for the future.

“They have and they will do for different positions as well.

“We have so many important players with the contract expiring and the club needs to organise themselves for the future.

“I think it was a good idea, I knew about that (Mamardashvili) before it came out on social media and that is a good message for me because the club cares about what I think.

“But they are doing the right thing in my point of view, but, on my side, as long as I have my contract here and as long as I am happy here, the club is happy with me, my family is happy here, I will stay.”
