Jadon Sancho could leave Manchester United permanently or on loan

Jadon Sancho is yet to feature for Manchester United this season

Jadon Sancho is expected to leave Manchester United, either on a permanent transfer or loan, before the transfer window closes, according to The Athletic.

The club is currently in discussions with Juventus and Chelsea regarding a deal for the 24-year-old winger.

Juventus have been interested in Sancho since the January transfer window, while Chelsea’s interest has emerged more recently but is considered equally serious as a potential option in the coming days.

For Chelsea to move forward with the deal, a player would likely need to head in the opposite direction.

At present, Raheem Sterling is seen as the most viable candidate for this exchange.

However, much would need to be resolved for this possibility to materialize, as Sterling is focused on addressing a complicated contractual situation at Chelsea before deciding on his next move.

Although Sterling, 29, is not part of Chelsea’s long-term plans, he still has three years remaining on his contract, worth over £300,000 per week.

Manchester United must also assess whether the potential deal makes both financial and footballing sense for the club.

Sancho spent the latter half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, scoring three goals in 21 appearances, which helped the Bundesliga club reach the Champions League final.

Sancho rejoined United’s first-team training earlier this summer, his first return since September 2023, following a fallout with manager Erik ten Hag after refusing to apologize for a previous dispute.

However, he was excluded from United’s squad for both of their opening Premier League matches this season, with Ten Hag citing the challenge of finding space for everyone in his squad.

Jadon Sancho joined United from Dortmund in the summer of 2021 in an £85 million deal and has since made 83 appearances, scoring 12 goals for the club.
