Liverpool have officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in the summer transfer window.
The Reds reached an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Georgia international in a deal, worth £30 million
He will remain in La Liga for the remainder of the current season before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2025.
The arrangement includes an initial payment of £25 million to Valencia, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.
A 10% sell-on clause is also reportedly part of the agreement.
Mamardashvili, who joined Valencia in 2021, has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Mestalla, making over 100 appearances for the Spanish club.
His profile grew further this summer during the European Championship, where he helped Georgia reach the knockout stages for the first time in their history before their elimination by eventual winners Spain.
Although there were reports suggesting a loan move to Bournemouth might follow his transfer to Liverpool, Premier League regulations prevent such deals.
As a result, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia until his move to Liverpool next year.
This deal marks Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, with the transfer window closing on Friday.
The club had previously sought to acquire Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £51 million, but the Spain midfielder chose to stay with his boyhood club.
Liverpool’s current No.1, Alisson Becker, was consulted about the club’s pursuit of Mamardashvili and has expressed his support for the move, emphasizing the importance of planning for the long-term future of the goalkeeping department.
“I think the club needs to prepare for the future,” Alisson said.
“We are not going to last forever here, I am getting old!
“No, for a goalkeeper I am still young, I have a lot of energy and I still have much to give for this club and I want to give to the club as much as I can.
“But they have to prepare for the future.
“They have and they will do for different positions as well.
“We have so many important players with the contract expiring and the club needs to organise themselves for the future.
“I think it was a good idea, I knew about that (Mamardashvili) before it came out on social media and that is a good message for me because the club cares about what I think.
“But they are doing the right thing in my point of view, but, on my side, as long as I have my contract here and as long as I am happy here, the club is happy with me, my family is happy here, I will stay.”
