Raheem Sterling has been omitted from the Chelsea squad

Manchester United are cautious about pursuing a move for Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling, despite the winger’s interest in joining the club, according to Manchester Evening News.

Sterling, 30, is open to a transfer to United if Juventus do not advance in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.

A potential swap involving England internationals Sancho and Sterling has been suggested, with United eager to offload Sancho.

Sterling, who was recently stripped of the number seven shirt at Chelsea, would be considered as a replacement.

Sancho’s current weekly salary of around £250,000 could be impacted by United’s failure to secure a Champions League spot.

Sterling, on the other hand, earns £325,000 per week at Chelsea, which could complicate matters under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations.

United have emphasized that they will only pursue deals that align with their financial objectives for the coming year.

They also have two wingers, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount, who can play on the right.

Chelsea are looking to offload Sterling after he was omitted from their opening game of the season against Manchester City.

Sterling’s representatives issued a statement seeking “clarity” on his role, and he is now training separately from the first-team squad.

Despite being a United fan growing up, Sterling has never scored against them in 26 appearances for Liverpool, City, and Chelsea.

United have no plans to target Sterling’s fellow Chelsea outcast, Ben Chilwell.

Chelsea are keen to sell the left-back, and United are currently without their senior left-backs, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, due to injury.

Right-back Diogo Dalot has been deployed at left-back, with new signing Noussair Mazraoui also capable of playing in that position.

17-year-old left-back Harry Amass has been promoted to the first-team squad following impressive pre-season performances.

Shaw is expected to return from a calf injury next month, while manager Erik ten Hag has indicated that Malacia could make a comeback from a long-term knee issue in October.

United previously explored a potential loan move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella last year after Shaw suffered a hamstring injury early in the season.
