Valencia manager Rubén Baraja has confirmed that Giorgi Mamardashvili’s transfer to Liverpool is “very advanced” as the Reds approach their first signing of the summer.
The Georgian international underwent a medical on Monday following the agreement of a £30 million deal with the La Liga club.
He will remain in La Liga for the remainder of the current season before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2025.
The arrangement includes an initial payment of £25 million to Valencia, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.
A 10% sell-on clause is also reportedly part of the agreement.
Mamardashvili, who joined Valencia in 2021, has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper at Mestalla, making over 100 appearances for the Spanish club.
His profile grew further this summer during the European Championship, where he helped Georgia reach the knockout stages for the first time in their history before their elimination by eventual winners Spain.
Although there were reports suggesting a loan move to Bournemouth might follow his transfer to Liverpool, Premier League regulations prevent such deals.
As a result, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia until his move to Liverpool next year.
Speaking ahead of Valencia’s clash with Athletic Bilbao, Baraja said: “He is very advanced and the most positive thing is that he can compete with us this year.
“Hopefully it can be defined soon.
“The club makes a great sale for the club’s economy and we continue to count on him from a sporting point of view.
“He will try to have a good season and be decisive in the team
“I have always explained that in all clubs around the world, if there is a situation of a player on the market, if the club considers it appropriate, we have to adapt.
“For us, it is positive that the player is still with us, considering what has happened, it is good news.”
