Federico Chiesa set to undergo Liverpool medical ahead of transfer

Liverpool are closing in on their second summer signing

Federico Chiesa is set for a medical ahead of completing a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool are expected to pay Juventus around €13 million (£10.9 million), though the final agreement between the clubs is still pending.

The winger, along with other former first-team players, has been excluded from new Juventus head coach Thiago Motta’s plans.

Motta confirmed Chiesa’s availability earlier this summer when he excluded the No. 7 from the squad for a pre-season friendly against Ligue 1 side Brest, further fueling speculation about his imminent departure.

Speaking about the decision, the newly-appointed manager said: “Chiesa and all the other players not called up for today’s game are not part of the project.

“We have been clear with them, they have to find a new solution and new club as soon as possible.

“The decision has been made.”

Chiesa originally joined Juventus from Fiorentina on loan in 2020, with the move later becoming permanent for €50 million (£42.3 million).

Last season, under former head coach Massimiliano Allegri, Chiesa was a regular starter, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

The 2023-24 season marked his first full campaign since recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in January 2022, which sidelined him for approximately nine months.

Chiesa was also a standout performer for Italy during their victorious UEFA Euro 2020 campaign and represented his country in the 2024 tournament, where they were eliminated in the round of 16.

Since moving to Turin, Federico Chiesa has scored 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus, adding to the 34 goals he netted in 154 matches for Fiorentina.

Liverpool, under new head coach Arne Slot, have started the Premier League season strongly, securing 2-0 victories against both Ipswich Town and Brentford.
