Jadon Sancho is currently waiting for an offer from Chelsea, even though Juventus continues to pursue the winger on loan from Manchester United, according to The Guardian.
Chelsea, who are intensifying their efforts to sign Victor Osimhen from Napoli, are also exploring an opportunistic move for Sancho.
They have discussed a potential swap deal with United involving Raheem Sterling, who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.
However, United has shown little interest in Ben Chilwell, despite Chelsea’s offer of the left-back.
Although progress on Sterling’s move has been slow, Chelsea is still considered a strong contender for Sancho in a separate deal.
The 24-year-old, who is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at United, is believed to prefer a move to Chelsea over Juventus.
The situation remains fluid, and Juventus has not abandoned their attempt to sign Sancho on a temporary basis.
While Maresca has a number of wide players at his disposal, he has not dismissed the possibility of bringing in the former Borussia Dortmund attacker ahead of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League playoff second leg in Geneva on Thursday night.
“If we have to sign a player just for signing, I don’t want it,” the Chelsea head coach said.
“But if we can sign a player who can help us, for sure I want it.
“Jadon is not our player.
“I know Jadon very well from many years with [Manchester] City.
“I know him very well. But he is not our player.
“We will see what happens.”
Chelsea defeated Servette 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last week.
However, Maresca cautioned his players against complacency and expressed concerns about the pitch condition at Stade de Genève.
The immediate goal is to secure European football, but Maresca also faces the unpredictability of the transfer market.
He reassured that Chelsea is not as erratic as it might appear from the outside.
Chelsea are working to reduce a crowded squad, and Maresca has been decisive with Sterling.
Sterling, who wants to settle his contractual situation before considering his future, has yet to attract serious interest.
With three years remaining on his £325,000-a-week deal, there’s a possibility he may stay.
Maresca warned the 29-year-old, part of a group excluded from the first team, that he will have no playing opportunities if he remains at Chelsea.
“My advice?” Maresca said.
“He knows exactly what he has to do.
“He doesn’t need my advice. I prefer to be honest with the player.
“The ones who are not involved, they are all players who are not going to be involved and they don’t get any minutes in case they stay.
“I don’t know what happens when the window closes.
“We will see who is here and who is not here.
“The only thing I can say is the ones who are going to get minutes are the ones who I think can help us.
“It’s not just Raheem.
“It’s all the players who in this moment are training apart.
“The moment the transfer window closes, they are not going to get minutes.
“I’ve already been clear with them and honest.”
Maresca is eager to sign both a striker and a defender. Chelsea are pursuing Victor Osimhen, but the Napoli forward has also attracted a significant offer from Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.
Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Osimhen, so Chelsea would need to ensure his fit within their system for a deal to make sense.
In the meantime, Chelsea have alternative plans and are tracking Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán, and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Al Ahli are also vying for Toney, whose contract ends next year.
Maresca aims to secure a centre-back if Chelsea can offload either Trevoh Chalobah or Axel Disasi.
Negotiations are ongoing with Benfica regarding Tomás Araújo.
Although PSG view Araújo as a potential replacement for Milan Skriniar, Benfica is reluctant to sell.
Chelsea will be missing Reece James, Malo Gusto, Roméo Lavia, João Félix, and Pedro Neto for their match against Servette.
