Nottingham Forest will need to significantly increase their bid for Caoimhin Kelleher if they hope to persuade Liverpool to part with the goalkeeper, according to Liverpool Echo.
The Reds turned down an offer from Forest on Thursday, which was believed to involve cash plus Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner moving in the opposite direction.
Liverpool value Kelleher at over £25 million and are not inclined to sell the 25-year-old before the transfer deadline this evening.
However, that stance could shift if Forest makes an improved bid and Kelleher indicates a desire to leave.
In that scenario, Liverpool would face a race against time to find an experienced goalkeeper to serve as understudy to first-choice Alisson Becker.
Currently, the third-choice goalkeeper is Vitezslav Jaros, who, although yet to make a first-team appearance for Liverpool, won the Austrian league and cup double on loan at Sturm Graz last season and earned his first full cap for Czechia.
Caoimhin Kelleher trained as usual at Kirkby on Friday morning as Liverpool continued their preparations for Sunday’s Premier League clash with bitter North West rivals Manchester United.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga is set to join Scottish Premiership side Livingston on loan.
Several other Liverpool players are expected to go out on loan, with Stefan Bajcetic the most notable as he nears a reunion with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders at Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
Teenage wingers Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon, along with centre-back Nat Phillips, are also expected to depart.
However, a loan move for Tyler Morton to Bayer Leverkusen now seems less likely.
