Arne Slot isn’t concerned that Manchester United have spent five times more than Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
United invested around £200 million, including add-ons, to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad with five new players.
In contrast, Liverpool’s spending has been more modest, with just over £40 million allocated to sign Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardasvili, the latter remaining on loan at Valencia.
Despite the disparity, Slot remains content with his squad and has urged fans not to dwell on the spending differences ahead of Sunday’s showdown at Old Trafford.
“I don’t look at the outside and I don’t look at other clubs,” said the Liverpool head coach.
“I only focus on what we have and the situation we’re in.
“I’m completely happy with the team we have and it’s no use comparing yourself with other clubs.
“The only way we have to compare ourselves is on Sunday and then we’ll see how we level against them.
“Afterwards I will find moments where I say we have to improve and I’ll be happy with a few things.
“It’s only about us. That’s the only influence I and we have.
“We don’t look at other clubs and what they’re doing in the window.”
Liverpool’s last two visits to Old Trafford ended in disappointment, as their dreams of a quadruple were dashed.
They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the FA Cup and were held to a draw in the league, despite dominating United in the first half.
The atmosphere inside Old Trafford shifted dramatically when Bruno Fernandes capitalized on Jarell Quansah’s loose pass to equalize in the second half.
Slot has emphasized to his players the importance of silencing the home crowd.
Although Arne Slot has yet to experience the intensity of English football’s biggest rivalry firsthand, he is confident his players can rise to the occasion.
“I haven’t experienced this game yet, but the players have experienced it many, many times,” said the Dutchman.
“So of course we have not only to prepare them for the tactic part, but how you should play in the best possible way so that it doesn’t happen that the crowd is going completely crazy.
“Having experienced at Ipswich the atmosphere around that game, I’m expecting this to be even more.
“United have shown last season that every time the game was on the line or there were hard or tough moments for them, they could step up.
“One of those moments was the FA Cup Final and if you can beat Man City in a final – not on a Wednesday evening, but in a final – that shows how much quality United have.”
Arne Slot concluded: “It’s impossible for me to judge if [me and Ten Hag] are different or the same because I’ve not seen him work at the training ground.
“So I don’t think you can say all English managers are the same, all Dutch managers are the same, all Italian managers are the same.
“There will be differences between people and I don’t think you have to look at the country you come from, people are different.
“If I’m different or the same, it’s impossible for me to judge.
“It’s only possible to judge for the people that worked with us both and I’m not one of them.
“So it’s impossible for me to give my opinion about it if we are the same, or if we are different.”
