Andy Robertson believes Mohamed Salah is “getting better with age” as the Liverpool forward aims to extend his impressive goalscoring record against Manchester United.
The Reds will travel to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for their North West derby, with Salah having scored 14 goals in 15 appearances against the Red Devils.
Last season, the Egyptian forward made history by becoming the first visiting player to score in four consecutive league games at United, converting a late penalty to secure a 2-2 draw for Liverpool.
With the Reds looking to maintain their perfect start to the Premier League season under new manager Arne Slot, Robertson is convinced that Salah is in the best form of his career.
“You know when a big game is on the horizon but Mo sets standards every single day,” said the Liverpool left-back.
“He is a model professional and if any kids are looking at professionals to base themselves on, then Mohamed Salah is not a bad person to do it to.
“Every single day he dedicates his life to football. You can see the shape he’s in.
“He is getting better with age in terms of his shape and his physical output and attributes.
“That is credit to him. In the big games in the past, he has more often than not shown up with goals or assists or key moments.
“Just for us, we hope that continues because obviously he is our main man and teams try to stop him.
“We also have quality elsewhere on the pitch that if teams do stop him, we hope somebody else can pop up and steal the limelight.”
Mohamed Salah has a knack for delivering in big games, counting Manchester City, Tottenham, and Arsenal among his top five favorite opponents.
He’s also scored in every round of the Champions League, including both the semi-finals and the final.
Notably, nine of his 14 goals against Manchester United have come at Old Trafford.
Andy Robertson is confident that the 32-year-old isn’t done yet, even though this might be his last league appearance at the venue, as Salah’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
“I come up against him in training all the time and he’s a fantastic player,” added Robertson.
“I think his goals and assists and all-round play speaks for themselves and we hope it continues in the future.
“He is a big-game player.
“The minute he walked through this door he’s set Anfield alight but he’s also set other stadiums alight.
“He is a Premier League legend, of course he is, but he is still wanting to write a few more stories and hopefully that is him showing up in other big games this season.”
