Why Arsenal rejected Al Ittihad bid for Leandro Trossard

Leandro Trossard has been a key player for Arsenal since joining the club from Brighton in January 2023

Arsenal have rejected an informal proposal from Al Ittihad to sign forward Leandro Trossard, according to The Athletic.

The Saudi Pro League side submitted a preliminary offer for a season-long loan, including a fee of €5 million (£4.2 million; $5.5 million), with an obligation to buy next summer for a price between €20-25 million.

However, Arsenal have made it clear that the 29-year-old Belgium international is not for sale at any price, as he remains a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Trossard, who has several years remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, started the 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Arsenal signed Trossard from Brighton in January 2023, and he has played a significant role since then, scoring 19 goals and providing 12 assists in 71 appearances for manager Arteta’s side.

Towards the end of last season, he replaced Gabriel Martinelli in the starting lineup, with his 17 goals and two assists in 46 games contributing to Arsenal finishing just two points shy of the Premier League title.

He climbed off the bench to score the opening goal in the 2-0 victory at Aston Villa last month, and commented on the win after the match: “I think everyone wants to start games and play games obviously then it’s up to the player how they respond.

“I always want to make an impact if it’s off the bench or as a starter.

“I think I’ve done my job today to help the team there’s not much more that I can do in that aspect.”

Al-Ittihad are eager to bolster their squad with a winger as they look to enhance a team that already features Karim Benzema, Fabinho, and N’Golo Kante.
