Colombia international forward Luis Diaz has urged Mohamed Salah to extend his Liverpool career beyond next summer.
The Anfield icon is currently in the final year of his contract, and there are concerns that this might be his last season at Liverpool.
After his impressive performance in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United, Salah disclosed that no discussions have taken place regarding a potential new contract.
Salah said: “I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club.
“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it.
“I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”
He continued: “Coming into the game, I said it could be the last time [I play here with Liverpool].
“No-one at the club has spoken to me about contracts, so I’m just like, ‘OK, I’m playing my last season’ and see what happens at the end of the season.
“So far, we don’t know with which club, but so far yeah my last game here with Liverpool.
“It’s not up to me but nobody talk to me about a contract with the club.
“We’ll see.”
At 32, Salah has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League but continues to perform at a high level, with many suggesting he could play well into his late 30s.
Diaz, who has witnessed Salah’s impact firsthand, emphasized the challenge of finding a replacement for the Egyptian star.
The 27-year-old told Telemundo: “It would be hard for us, it would be hard for Liverpool. It’s going to hurt us a lot.
“He still has a year to think about it, it’s not easy. He always gives his very best.
“He has done it from the start. It would be very hard to lose a key player like him.
“It’s his decision and we respect that, but I hope he doesn’t leave.”
Liverpool are reportedly set to initiate contract talks with Salah “soon”.
Salah has started the 2024-25 campaign in electrifying form, registering three goals and three assists in just three Premier League matches.
He has been crucial to Liverpool’s perfect start this season.
The Egypt international is currently the 10th-highest scorer in Premier League history with 160 goals, closing in on Jermain Defoe (162) and Robbie Fowler (163).
