Mohamed Salah keen to sign Liverpool contract

Mohamed Salah contract has become a hot topic over the past week

Mohamed Salah is reportedly eager to commit his future to Liverpool, with reports indicating that he has no interest in a move to Saudi Arabia and that financial gain is not the main factor in his decision-making.

The topic of Salah’s contract has taken center stage following Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester United, where the Egyptian provided a goal and two assists.

In a post-match interview, Salah revealed that he had not yet been approached by the club regarding a contract extension, despite his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Salah said: “I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive because as you know it’s my last year at the club.

“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it.

“I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”

He continued: “Coming into the game, I said it could be the last time [I play here with Liverpool].

“No-one at the club has spoken to me about contracts, so I’m just like, ‘OK, I’m playing my last season’ and see what happens at the end of the season.

“So far, we don’t know with which club, but so far yeah my last game here with Liverpool.

“It’s not up to me but nobody talk to me about a contract with the club.

“We’ll see.”

Salah is one of three key Liverpool players whose contracts are winding down, and fans have expressed concern over the lack of progress in talks.

However, the club’s recent off-field changes and focus on the transfer market may explain the delay.

Previously, there were rumours that the 32-year-old forward was eyeing a lucrative free transfer to the Saudi Pro League, but new reports suggest otherwise.

According to the Liverpool Echo’s Paul Gorst, multiple sources close to Salah indicate that he is “desperate” to remain at Anfield.

Gorst claims that Salah is focused solely on extending his stay, having considered the trajectory of players like Sadio Mane, whose move to Saudi Arabia has been less successful than anticipated.

Salah currently earns a basic salary of £350,000 per week at Liverpool, which rises to around £1 million per week when endorsements are included.

Despite these figures, Gorst suggests that money “won’t be the deciding factor for his next move.”

This could play a pivotal role in negotiations, as Liverpool may be hesitant to offer a significant pay increase due to Salah’s age.

The forward turns 33 next summer, which has led to some speculation about whether the club will extend his contract.

However, Salah’s extraordinary physical fitness and continued success both on the field and in training are key arguments in his favour.

His performance during pre-season fitness tests under new head coach Arne Slot only further highlights his exceptional condition.

In his recent interview with Sky Sports, Salah discussed feeling out of his “comfort zone” again after seven years under Jurgen Klopp’s management, yet one of his main motivations for staying at Liverpool is his family.

Salah and his loved ones are settled in the northwest of England, with the forward noting that his daughter is “one of the city’s people” in his eyes.
