Antony makes Manchester United transfer decision
Antony has struggled to make an impact at Manchester United since his move from Ajax
Despite interest from Jose Mourinho and a potential exit route from his struggles at Manchester United, Antony remains committed to staying at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian winger, who arrived from Ajax for £85 million, has so far struggled to justify his hefty price tag.
Since joining, the 24-year-old has managed only 11 goals and has already slipped down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
Antony has made just one substitute appearance this season, prompting speculation that United could offload him.
There were even suggestions that the club hierarchy was prepared to accept a significant financial loss, reportedly willing to sell him for as little as £25 million, before ultimately opting to send Jadon Sancho to Chelsea instead.
While no move materialized before the closure of the English transfer window, Turkish side Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in signing Antony before their own deadline on September 13.
According to Fotomac, former United manager Jose Mourinho is also keen to bring Antony in on loan for the remainder of the season.
However, the winger’s stance could be a stumbling block for any potential move.
Mirror Football reports that Antony is determined to stay at Manchester United and has no plans to leave in the coming week.
He is focused on proving his worth and making a success of his time at Old Trafford.
Earlier this year, Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, reaffirmed the player’s commitment to the club.
Speaking to Italian media, Pedroso emphasized Antony’s desire to remain at United and work through his challenges.
Pedroso said: “I see reports about a potential exit on loan. Antony’s plan is clear: Manchester United.
“He wants to stay, he’s only focused on Man United.
“We already spoke about that with the club.”
Erik ten Hag shared his thoughts on Antony’s future during the summer.
While acknowledging that the winger has yet to fully meet expectations, the Manchester United manager expressed confidence that Antony will eventually succeed at the club.
He said: “I don’t go over the budget. I’ve never even had a budget.
“At United, the budgets lie with the owners and management.
“He [Antony] certainly showed that potential in the first month: he scored three times in his first three games.
“After that it became more difficult, last season was not good.
“But I am still convinced that he has the potential to play at this club.”
Antony is under contract with Manchester United until 2027.
However, his recent form has seen him drop out of the Brazil national team, with his last appearance coming in 2023.
With Jadon Sancho’s departure, Antony is eager to reclaim a regular spot in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup.
