Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was involved in a heated altercation with former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst while on international duty with the Netherlands.

The Dutch squad, including Timber and Weghorst, recently secured a 5-2 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League.

The Netherlands will next face Germany in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

However, tensions flared during a training session ahead of the upcoming game.

Timber and Weghorst were involved in a clash that required intervention from head coach Ronald Koeman.

A video shared on social media shows Timber tackling Weghorst, who immediately went down and complained about the challenge.

The two players exchanged words before Koeman stepped in to defuse the situation.

“I said something to you, I said something to them,” Koeman reportedly said.

Weghorst continued to voice his frustrations, prompting Koeman to shout, “And now it’s over!”

Despite finishing the training session, the 32-year-old remained visibly annoyed by the incident and quickly left as soon as it concluded.

The clash follows Koeman having to defend Matthijs de Ligt over his performance against Bosnia, where the United defender was at fault for both goals conceded.

However, Koeman downplayed the errors, calling them not a “big deal.”

When asked about De Ligt, Koeman said:

“He himself realises that he was in the wrong position.

“This should not happen, but mistakes are part of football.

“I think it is unfair to make a big deal out of it.”

Hugely critical of his own performance De Ligt said: “I think you know how I feel, we won but then comes the individual part.

“I should have done better at their second goal, and I know that.

“I don’t really know what happened..

“I should have cleared the ball but I kept having doubts during the play.

“It’s just f****d. If this game is a missed opportunity for me?

“I don’t know, I just try to do my best.”
