Mohamed Salah reportedly wants to remain at Liverpool to solidify his place in the club’s history books, according to Ian Wright.

Salah is now in the final year of his current contract with Liverpool, a situation he shares with key teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Egyptian forward last extended his contract in 2022 and is Liverpool’s highest earner, making around £350,000 per week.

This lucrative deal, which Troy Deeney suggests has “rocked the boat” among the squad, has added some tension.

Despite this, Liverpool seem to be handling the situation with calm.

Salah underscored his commitment by scoring in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United.

“This is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it,” he said.

“I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

Mohamed Salah has previously been linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League, but Ian Wright believes the Egyptian’s desire to make more history at Liverpool could keep him on Merseyside.

Salah is currently fifth on the club’s all-time scoring list with 214 goals, and with a new contract, he could set his sights on surpassing Ian Rush’s record of 346 goals.

At 32, Salah boasts a remarkable tally of 214 goals and 92 assists in 352 appearances since joining from AS Roma in 2017.

During his time at Anfield, he has helped the club win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

However, with his current contract set to expire on June 30, he could leave as a free agent unless an agreement is reached for an extension.

“I do get the impression that he will probably like to stay at Liverpool and break records. He has got that legacy to play for,” Wright told the Premier League.

“Let’s say he stays for three years. Even if he dropped off in the last year, that’s 10 years of unbelievable service.

“I believe that he will probably stay if Liverpool go about it.

“And I know that people get very nervy around giving contracts to people in their 30s, but I think that he’s an exception in the way that he prepares himself and plays.”
