Liverpool have received a significant injury boost with Alexis Mac Allister returning to training for Argentina.
The midfielder had picked up an issue during Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Chile.
Mac Allister started alongside Rodrigo de Paul and Enzo Fernandez in the match, scoring the opening goal.
However, he was substituted for Paulo Dybala around ten minutes from the end due to “discomfort.”
The news raised concerns for Liverpool, who are relying on Mac Allister to help Arne Slot’s team make a strong start to the new season.
Fortunately, Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has alleviated those concerns by confirming that the 25-year-old has recovered and is available for their next game against Colombia on Tuesday.
“The team is fine, recovering from the game the other day, with some typical ailments,” he told the press.
“Nico (Gonzalez) trained separately and Alexis (Mac Allister) with the rest of the group.
“We will see how they have evolved over the last two days to decide how we are going to play.”
Liverpool will face Nottingham Forest at Anfield next on September 14.
There were concerns that Alexis Mac Allister might be racing to get fit for that match, but he appears to have come through the Chile game relatively unscathed.
The 25-year-old could earn his 33rd cap in Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia, as he continues to excel with his national team.
Mac Allister scored the opening goal of the game by finishing off a superb team move.
He rifled home after Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez delivered a beautiful ball across the face of goal.
Mac Allister has played every minute of Liverpool’s season so far, forming an excellent midfield partnership with Ryan Gravenberch.
The duo has been crucial in setting the tempo for the team’s dangerous attacks.
Liverpool’s other injury concerns include Curtis Jones.
Jones picked up a minor issue before the club’s 2-0 win over Brentford last month.
Meanwhile, new signing Federico Chiesa is still lacking match fitness after his £12.5m move from Juventus and has not featured for the club since the start of pre-season.
Additionally, Harvey Elliott was sent home from the latest England Under-21 camp for “further medical assessment” at Anfield.
In Argentina’s clash against Colombia, Mac Allister will face Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz as the two rivals compete for vital qualifying points.
Mac Allister’s side currently tops the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table for South American teams, with six wins from seven games and only one defeat, giving them 18 points.
Uruguay are in second place with 14 points, while third-placed Colombia could close the gap to two points with a win.
