Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has declared he is “ready for what’s coming” despite recent injury concerns while on international duty with Argentina.
The Reds star was substituted in the latter stages of Argentina’s 3-0 victory over Chile in their World Cup qualifier.
Mac Allister scored the opening goal for Lionel Scaloni’s side, with Julian Alvarez and Paulo Dybala adding late goals to secure the win and put Argentina four points clear at the top of their group.
However, it was reported that the 25-year-old sustained an adductor injury during the match, which caused him to miss preparations for their upcoming clash with Colombia.
The match could see Mac Allister face off against Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz, who is expected to feature for Nestor Lorenzo’s side.
Despite concerns about his fitness, Mac Allister has sought to allay any fears and expressed his readiness for the upcoming challenge.
“Getting ready for what’s coming. Vamos @afaseleccion #TodosJuntos,” the 25-year-old posted on Instagram.
Despite injury concerns, Mac Allister was in high spirits as he travelled across South America.
Arne Slot will be closely monitoring the events in Barranquilla as the Reds prepare for their Premier League return on Saturday.
Nottingham Forest will visit Anfield, aiming to challenge Slot’s impressive start.
Liverpool entered the international break in second place in the Premier League, unbeaten and level on points with leaders Manchester City.
They remain the only team yet to concede a goal in the top flight after three matches.
Mac Allister has been a regular in the midfield trio, with Ryan Gravenberch continuing to impress in his new role within Liverpool’s starting eleven.
It remains to be seen whether the Argentine will feature in Colombia on Tuesday night, but Scaloni has already revealed that he missed some of the build-up to the game.
“Alexis didn’t train because he was overloaded, he was in pain,” the World Cup-winning tactician told TyC Sports.
“It always happens to us, they come out to do their part.”
