Alejandro Garnacho could be in trouble after liking post detailing Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism of Erik ten Hag
Cristiano Ronaldo slammed Erik ten Hag for saying say Manchester United cannot challenge for silverware
Alejandro Garnacho has sparked controversy by liking an Instagram post that criticized Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
Garnacho recently liked a post from Fabrizio Romano that featured Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent remarks about Ten Hag.
In the interview, Ronaldo, who left United in 2022, suggested that the club needs a ‘rebuild’ and questioned Ten Hag’s comments about United’s ability to compete for the league title.
Although Garnacho has since removed his like, the action did not go unnoticed by fans.
Ronaldo’s second stint at United ended following a public disagreement with Ten Hag.
The Portuguese forward recently discussed his departure in an interview with Rio Ferdinand.
Ronaldo’s comments read: “Man United coach can NOT say they can’t compete to win the Premier League and the Champions League every year.
“This is Man United!
“You have to be there, to mentally say… listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that.
“We’re going to try. You have to try.
“This is why Man United need to rebuild.”
Ronaldo suggested that Ten Hag should seek advice from his assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy, regarding Manchester United’s values.
The former Real Madrid forward said: “If ten Hag listens to Ruud van Nistelrooy… maybe he can help.
“He knows the club and the club should listen to the guys who were there, as this is really important.
“Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Sir Alex Ferguson… you need advice from these people.
“You cannot rebuild a club without knowledge.”
Ronaldo and Alejandro Garnacho were teammates at Manchester United, appearing in six games together during the 2022 season.
Garnacho has featured in all three of United’s Premier League matches so far this season.
He provided an assist in the opening game against Fulham, appeared as a substitute in the match against Brighton, and started in the loss to Liverpool.
Garnacho, who is highly regarded by manager Erik ten Hag, has faced speculation from some fans suggesting he might be dropped due to his social media activity.
In April, Garnacho liked two posts criticizing Ten Hag following Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
Despite United’s struggles at the Vitality Stadium, they secured a point thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes.
United will return to action on Saturday with an away fixture against Southampton.
