Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shared injury updates on Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, and Gabriel Jesus ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners have enjoyed a strong start to the season, collecting seven points from their first three games.
They’ll be looking to continue this momentum in the highly anticipated north London derby.
Speaking ahead of the short trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arteta offered insight into the fitness of key players.
Gabriel Jesus, who has been recovering from injury, trained with the team today, suggesting positive progress.
Regarding Odegaard, Arteta mentioned that the captain will undergo further tests on his ankle in the coming days.
The club’s medical team will then determine whether he will be fit to feature in Sunday’s crucial match.
He said: “We need some more tests. Let’s see what happens in the next day or so.
“This afternoon probably.
“Let’s see the extent of the injury and how quickly we can get him back.
“Martin wants to be here every day but we have to wait and see. I leave that to the doctor.
“He’s willing and he wants to be present in every game.
“We need to make sure we know first how good he is or not.
“Players with 48 hours are always available.
“Let’s see what happens.”
Meanwhile, the Spaniard stated that Merino is currently recovering from a shoulder fracture, with the process progressing slowly.
Mikel Arteta added: “Better, it’s a slow process and it takes a while to heal.
“We’re using this time to make sure he understands and is back to help the team straight away.”
On Jesus, Arteta added: “Gabi was out there.
“He’s got another session tomorrow and if everything goes well he’ll be with us.”
