Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool has come under renewed scrutiny after his agent posted a strongly-worded rant on social media.
With just nine months remaining on his current contract, Salah will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January.
Despite this, Liverpool appear to remain calm about the situation, which is mirrored by contract negotiations involving other key players such as Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
However, Salah offered a timely reminder of his value to the club, finding the back of the net in Liverpool’s commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester United just before the international break.
“This is my last year with the club and I want to enjoy it,” he said.
“I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”
Reports have since surfaced that both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are eyeing a move for Salah next year.
The forward currently earns a club-record wage of around £350,000 per week at Liverpool.
However, with Salah now 32 years old, there is speculation that the club may be hesitant to commit to such high wages again.
Amidst the swirling rumours, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has attempted to clarify the situation.
Yet, his comments may have only added fuel to the fire.
He wrote on X: “FYI – all those ‘journalists’ who imply having ‘inside information’ about Mohamed’s future are making claims/posts based on absolutely nothing.
“Just click-w***ing. ‘Sources close to Mohamed’ don’t exist.
“This post is really just to tell you that they don’t know.”
Salah had previously attracted interest from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, who made a tempting offer of £100 million, with an additional £50 million in potential add-ons, just a year ago.
At the time, his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, responded by stating: “If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer.
“Mohamed remains committed to LFC.”
On Salah’s future, Arne Slot told Sky Sports “It’s a lot of ‘if’.
“At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well.
“I don’t talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”
He added at his pre-match press conference on Friday: “Boring answer but we don’t talk about contract situations here.
“Is it a distraction?
“No, it isn’t.”
