Pep Guardiola is confident that Thomas Frank will eventually take charge of one of Europe’s top clubs.
The two managers faced off during Manchester City’s 2-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday.
City had Erling Haaland to thank for their win, with the Norwegian striker scoring both goals to secure all three points.
Despite the result, Guardiola’s side was far from dominant, with Brentford controlling much of the match and taking an early lead through Yoane Wissa.
After the game, Guardiola heaped praise on Frank, expressing his belief that the Brentford boss is destined for a top-tier managerial position in the Premier League or across Europe.
When asked if he was surprised that the Danish coach hasn’t yet been snapped up by a ‘big club,’ Guardiola responded: “It is just a question of time. I’m good in a few things, one of which is reading when the manager is good.
“It is going to happen.”
Frank responded to Guardiola’s comments shortly after and said: “First, thank you for that, Pep – it is always nice.
“There are a lot of reasons why I admire Pep.
‘He always shows class and did it when we beat them here last time, almost 50 games ago.
“I am very happy at Brentford but maybe one day I will try something new.”
Frank has been linked with several clubs in the past, with Manchester United reportedly showing interest.
There were claims of talks between the two parties over the summer, as speculation grew about Erik ten Hag’s long-term future at Old Trafford.
Liverpool, United’s fierce rivals, were also linked with Frank as they searched for a successor to the outgoing Jurgen Klopp.
However, they ultimately chose former Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to take the reins.
Beyond discussions about Frank’s future, Guardiola expressed admiration for Brentford’s performance, adding: “I dont remember in eight or nine years a team that plays the way like Brentford did in the first 20 minutes.
“I give credit to them. We were not at our best. It’s not easy to handle it. They deserve to be 0-2 or 0-3 up.
“Every time they have the ball they create a chance.
“I don’t remember a team creating this kind of situation [against City].
“Long balls, duels, short passes, they break the lines.
“Quick in the transitions, strong in the recovery and set pieces.
“An extraordinary team.”
