Liverpool are eager to bounce back in the Premier League after Nottingham Forest handed Arne Slot his first defeat as Reds head coach.
Bournemouth will visit Anfield on Saturday, hoping to secure a victory to ignite their season after a sluggish start.
A major talking point from the Dutchman’s press conference was the injury to first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian sustained a muscle issue during last weekend’s loss to Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
Although he managed to play through it in their Champions League opener against AC Milan, his condition has since worsened, making him a doubt for the Bournemouth match.
Slot told his pre-match press conference: “Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today, so let’s wait [to see] if he can train.
“Then, if he can’t then he will probably not play as well, so we have to wait and see.
“Apart from Harvey Elliott, [there are no other injuries].”
Asked about the nature of the issue Alisson has sustained, Slot added: “He has a slight issue with one of his muscles and we wonder if this game tomorrow is coming too early or not.
“I think he did not take it from the Milan game, it happened a bit before, but after the Milan game he felt more and more.
“Now we have to wait to see if he is ready to be in goal tomorrow, or we have to wait a few more extra days.”
Alisson was notably absent from Friday’s training, increasing the likelihood of Caoimhin Kelleher making his first Premier League start since April.
The Republic of Ireland international has been vocal about his desire for regular playing time and could finally get his chance as the Reds face a busy schedule.
After the match at Anfield, Liverpool will swiftly shift their focus to Wednesday when they kick off their Carabao Cup defense.
The Reds have a rich history in the competition, and Slot may consider resting some key players ahead of the visit from West Ham United.
Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota have been consistent performers this season.
Konaté has been in the starting lineup for each of the last five matches since the opening-day win over Ipswich Town.
Given Liverpool’s injury concerns over the years, Slot and his medical team will be cautious about the workload on these players, aiming to avoid long-term absences.
Federico Chiesa made his Liverpool debut midweek, contributing to a 3-1 victory over AC Milan, though he has been omitted from the matchday squad in the last two Premier League games.
He could feature this weekend, marking his first Premier League appearance at Anfield following his summer transfer from Juventus.
Harvey Elliott remains a notable absentee as he continues his recovery from a fractured foot.
Aside from the uncertainty surrounding Alisson’s fitness, Slot’s squad is otherwise in good health.
