Andoni Iraola claims Liverpool still maintain the same “identity” after witnessing his Bournemouth team suffer a heavy defeat at Anfield.
The Reds secured a 3-0 victory in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, scoring three goals in just 11 minutes during the first half – two from Luis Diaz and one from Darwin Núñez.
This win temporarily placed Liverpool at the top of the table before champions Manchester City and title contenders Arsenal faced off on Sunday.
Iraola was particularly impressed by Liverpool’s consistent attacking threat, especially when comparing the current team to that under Jurgen Klopp’s predecessor, Arne Slot.
“They haven’t changed the identity of the team,” said the Bournemouth boss.
“They are very, very dangerous, they have a lot of speed, especially up front.
“With Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, they have threat in behind and they have speed.
“They have different structures to play transitional. It has been what Liverpool have been (in the past).
“They lost the game against Forest but they are doing very well.”
“I understand the stats were quite level but they were better than it mattered,” he added.
“When the game is on the line, they were much better than us.
“When they had the chances, they made the difference.
“You look at the stats and think 20 shots, seven corners, we had momentum but it had less value.
“At 3-0, they were pushing still.”
For Arne Slot, he was thrilled with the attacking play demonstrated by his Liverpool side in Saturday’s victory.
“There were 12 minutes where we scored three goals but I think during the whole first half we saw many of those moments,” he said.
“Unfortunately for us, the first, second and third didn’t go in.
“The good thing for us was their first chance didn’t go in as well.
“Then there were these 12 minutes of one attack after another that led to three goals, which was really pleasing to see at that moment – and which we also needed because we played against a tough opponent.
“An opponent which showed today that even when they were 3-0 down they just kept on going, kept on going and kept on going.
“It was tougher than the result might look like.”
