Pep Guardiola has addressed concerns surrounding Rodri’s condition after reports suggested the Manchester City midfielder had suffered a season-ending injury.
Rodri sustained a knee injury during City’s Premier League clash against Arsenal last Sunday and was forced off in the first half.
According to ESPN, the Spain international is believed to have ruptured his ACL, which could potentially sideline him for the remainder of the season.
Speaking ahead of City’s Carabao Cup third-round tie against Watford on Tuesday, Guardiola discussed Rodri’s condition.
However he admitted that no definitive update could be given as the club’s medical team is still evaluating the extent of the injury.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Pep Guardiola said, “We are still waiting for the decision of the doctors, exactly what he has.
“When we know it, the club or myself, the spokesman of the club will announce it.”
Following their midweek cup match, the reigning Premier League champions are set to resume domestic action on Saturday, with an away trip to Newcastle United.
Rodri sustained an injury during the first half of Manchester City’s heated 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Sunday, delivering a significant blow to the Blues’ pursuit of a record fifth consecutive Premier League title.
The injury, which occurred early in the match against their title rivals, has raised concerns about Man City’s chances moving forward.
Former Arsenal star Paul Merson believes Rodri’s absence could have a substantial impact on the race for the Premier League crown.
“I think it’s major,” he told Sky Sports.
“For all the top, top drawer players Man City have got, Rodri is world -class.
“He gets into every other football team in the world.
“There’s not many who can say that and he is one of them.
“He will be sorely missed because he’s an exceptional player who knits it all together.”
