Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has shared insights into his motivations within the sport.
The Brazil shot-stopper is expected to return to Arne Slot’s squad for the upcoming match against Wolves at Molineux this weekend.
In an interview with former England goalkeeper Joe Hart, Alisson discussed his thoughts, feelings, and faith.
While the pursuit of trophies may not primarily drive him, he has certainly achieved a remarkable collection during his time at Anfield, including Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup medals.
His impressive performances have positioned him as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Liverpool’s history, alongside Ray Clemence.
Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2018, Alisson has recorded 89 clean sheets, second only to Ederson, who has 97.
Speaking to BBC Sport the 31-year-old said: “My main motivation is not the prizes, the trophies – my motivations come from inside.”
He continued: “My faith in God makes me work hard and better and want to be the best in what I do because I believe everything I do is a way to praise God.
“Winning trophies and awards makes me happy, but my motivation comes from inside, my family.”
On his impressive record, he said: “I think it just some inner thin. The main part is hard work.
“I always like to improve myself.
“When I do a season that is my best season, this is the standard I need to go further.
“I like to focus on good positioning. If you have that, you are one step in front of the opponent.
“If you can act before [having to] react, it is better.
“I try to read the game as well, read the striker, look at his movements.”
Last summer, Alisson was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, and the anticipated arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili, the goalkeeper for Georgia and Valencia, in 2025 raised questions about his future at Liverpool.
He said: “I am committed to this club 100% and that involves being part of the leadership group.”
On Arne Slot, he concluded: “We were great before but Arne is bringing to us a new energy and knowledge.
“He is a really smart manager and he is helping us a lot.
“You can see from how we are playing now.
“We are committed to the plan and can see it is a good plan.
“We still have a lot to improve but we are in the right direction.
“We have a big gap to reach for our best but we are doing well so far.”
