Erik ten Hag reacts to Man Utd sack claims after Tottenham defeat
Manchester United fans furiously called for Erik ten Hag to be sacked after Tottenham loss
Erik ten Hag has brushed off questions about his future following Manchester United’s dismal 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday.
Brennan Johnson gave the visitors an early lead, scoring just two minutes and 35 seconds into the match after a surging run from Micky van de Ven.
Manchester United’s situation worsened when captain Bruno Fernandes was shown a red card for serious foul play three minutes before half-time.
Spurs capitalised on their advantage early in the second half, with Dejan Kulusevski adding a second goal.
Dominic Solanke sealed United’s fate in the 77th minute, finishing from close range to complete a resounding win.
Despite this being United’s third defeat in seven matches this season, Erik ten Hag remains resolute.
He emphasized that the club has already conducted a review and expressed confidence that the board will remain committed to their long-term plan.
“No I am not thinking about this. We all made this decision to stay together in summer, as ownership group, leadership group,” he said.
“Also we made the decision, after a clear review, what we have to improve as an organisation and how to construct a squad.
“All decisions made in togetherness, also knowing it would take some time.
“We are all there on one page, one boat, the ownership, the leadership group, the staff, players too.”
He added: “To concede a goal after two or three minutes like that, it did something to our belief.
“Totally unneccessary.
“To concede a goal like this, the [opposing] centre-half stepping in and passing the whole team over the right side and then the winger tapping in at the far post.
“Same mistake as in the midweek against Twente, it should be stopped in the first moment.
“From that moment on we were stressed on the ball.
“We could not find the triangles or the switches, we had some good moments, but from that moment we could not get a foothold.
“And we can do better than that. Even after such a mistake from us we should stay calm.
“We had chances and our moments to get back in the game, with Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho when we still had 11 players and then after the red card too we had moments.
“We had our chances before half-time and in the second half with 10 men we had chances as well.
“It definitely had an impact on the game. I don’t think it was a red card.
“First we have to deal with this and show resilience. This is not good enough.
“We have to accept this and get better.
“Focus on the next game and do things better than we did today.”
