Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a firm response regarding speculation about him becoming the next manager of the Germany national team.

The 57-year-old has been linked to this prestigious role for several years, but the rumours have intensified since he stepped down from his position at Anfield.

Klopp concluded his nearly nine-year tenure with Liverpool in May, where he secured every domestic honour, including the Premier League, as well as the Champions League.

Germany’s struggles in recent tournaments have heightened scrutiny on the coaching staff, with many fans and pundits expressing a desire for Klopp to take over the national team.

Currently, Julian Nagelsmann, the former head coach of RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, is in charge and is contracted until the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA and Mexico.

On Tuesday, while receiving the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Bellevue Palace in Berlin, Jurgen Klopp addressed the rumours, effectively pouring cold water on the speculation.

“Everyone hopes that Julian Nagelsmann will do this for much, much longer than 2026,” he said via Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

“I would be reluctant to talk about football today because there is nothing to say.

“Rudi Völler is a very nice guy.

“He was put in the situation where he had to talk about it.”

Klopp’s comments come after Voller, the director of the German national team, said: “I don’t know what Jürgen would like to do again.

“But if Julian Nagelsmann were to decide at some point that he would rather coach a top club in Europe or Germany again – of course, then there is no way around Jürgen Klopp if he wants to.”
