Ex-Manchester United scout Mick Brown believes Liverpool will “break the bank” to prevent Mohamed Salah from leaving on a free transfer this summer.
The forward’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he has yet to sign an extension.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Salah is eager to extend his stay at Anfield beyond this summer.
It is also understood that both Salah and his family are very happy and settled in Liverpool, having enjoyed seven immensely successful years at the club.
Salah has been linked with a move away from Merseyside in recent years.
Notably, FSG president Mike Gordon personally rejected a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad last summer.
Despite these advances, Brown believes the Reds will do whatever it takes to keep the Egyptian star beyond this season.
“I think Liverpool will break the bank in their efforts to keep him,” he told Football Insider.
“Of all of the left-footed players who play on the right, he is the best by far.
“Liverpool without Mo Salah are not the Liverpool we have seen.
“He can change the game in a minute.
“If they’re struggling, they can get the ball to him and he’ll make something happen.
“He’s so important to the way they play.
“I would think they’d be desperate to keep him.
“They will be making every effort to tie him down to a new contract before they let him go to Saudi Arabia for nothing, I’m sure.”
After the 3-0 victory over Manchester United last month, Mohamed Salah revealed that no one from Liverpool has approached him to discuss a contract extension.
He told Sky Sports: “I had a good summer and had a long time to myself to try to stay positive, because as you know it’s my last year at the club.
“I just want to enjoy it and I don’t want to think about it.
“I feel like I’m free to play football and then we’ll see what happens next year.”
He then continued: “I was coming to the game today thinking it could be the last time.
“Nobody at the club has spoken to me yet about a new contract, so I just play this last season and then see at the end of the season.”
