Paul Scholes believes Liverpool have a stronger chance of winning the Premier League than Arsenal this season.
The former Manchester United midfielder, who has consistently praised Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, expects them to challenge Manchester City for the title.
Liverpool currently sit at the top of the table, having won five of their first six Premier League matches.
Despite their strong start, many consider them the third favourite for the title, behind Arsenal and reigning champions Manchester City.
While Arsenal have been tipped by many to take advantage of Rodri’s season-ending injury and finally dethrone Pep Guardiola’s City for their first Premier League title since 2004, Scholes sees Liverpool as a bigger threat.
During an episode of The Fan Debate on Overlap, Paul Scholes responded to Liverpool fan Chloe Buxom’s assertion that Arsenal may never have a better opportunity to win the title.
The former England international suggested that Liverpool could pose a more significant challenge to City’s dominance.
He said: “You don’t think you’ve got a chance?
“I think you’re better than Arsenal.
“You’ve got a better squad, and possibly team.
“They excite me more.
“It’s not nice saying that, but honestly Liverpool do excite me more when I watch them, when I see their players.
“Everything they’ve got, it feels better than Arsenal.
‘I think Pep could be more worried about Liverpool than he is Arsenal.”
And Scholes has clearly persuaded his fellow pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher to support his team in the title race.
The former Reds centre-back believes that a reduced injury list could be pivotal in determining the outcome of the title race.
He said: “I think last season surprised us all, and Liverpool were actually top of the league with about seven ort eight games to go.
“The fact we haven’t bought anyone, everyone thinks we need to buy someone to improve because City are a level above, maybe Arsenal are better than us.
“The one thing I would say though is we had so many injuries last season, it was unbelievable how we kept it going.
“The Carabao Cup final, Joe Gomez at left back..
“A lot of that was probably down to how Jurgen Klopp played and how he trained, it was really high intensity.
“The new guy, he brings a different way of doing things, if Liverpool don’t have the injuries they did last season and they mirror what they did, they will be in with a shout.”
Scholes added: “You’ve talked me into it now!
“What they did last season (with the injuries) was unbelievable, if they can be fitter they might be there or thereabouts.”
