Arne Slot suggests Manchester United are not a ‘top team

Manchester United were hammered 3-0 by Tottenham at Old Trafford over the weekend

Arne Slot has indicated that Manchester United may no longer be considered a “top team” following their humbling defeat to Tottenham.

The Red Devils suffered a disheartening 3-0 loss to the North London side on Sunday, leaving them in 13th place in the Premier League table after one of the worst starts in their history.

In light of this performance, Slot has taken the opportunity to suggest that United no longer ranks among the top teams in the division.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Bologna, the Dutchman said: “One of the reasons why we can compete is because we have a lot of quality.

“I also see a lot of team cohesion in the team.

“If we score I also see the ones that don’t play are really happy with us scoring and winning.

“Those are two really positive things.

“But I also see things we definitely have to improve if we want to stay where we are with the fixture list that’s coming up.

“Like I said, every fixture is difficult in the Premier League but everybody tells me that a top league table team is a bit more difficult than a low league table team, which we can all understand and we haven’t faced one of them yet.

“So we have to do things better, but one of the reasons why we can stay up there is because we have a lot of players with a lot of individual quality.”

Arne Slot has already faced Liverpool’s fierce rivals, Manchester United, this season and secured a dominant victory.

The Reds won 3-0 at Old Trafford last month, with Luis Diaz scoring a first-half brace. Mohamed Salah capped off the scoring after the break.

Speaking after his game-winning performance, Colombian winger Diaz said: “I’m very happy to score goals to help the team,

“The most important thing is that the team is doing so well, winning games and winning this important game.

“I’m looking forward to the rest. I’m so happy to perform so well, I want to keep this rhythm and help the team all the time.”

Liverpool will renew their rivalry with Manchester United in January, having lost only one Premier League match to them in the past five years.

Away from their rivals, the Reds aim to extend their impressive run this week as they face Bologna before this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, United are set for a challenging couple of fixtures.

They will take on Porto in the Europa League midweek, followed by a match against Crystal Palace.
