Erik ten Hag reveals talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe after Man United’s defeat to Tottenham
Manchester United have made a poor start to the season
Erik ten Hag has revealed that he held discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe about potential improvements at Manchester United following their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.
Although Ten Hag recently extended his contract for an additional year, his position at Old Trafford has been under scrutiny since last summer.
At that time, club officials were reportedly exploring possible replacements.
United’s turbulent form this season has seen them slip to 13th place in the Premier League, further raising concerns over Ten Hag’s future.
The team’s poor performances have sparked speculation that the Dutchman could have only two matches to turn things around and secure his job.
In the wake of Sunday’s crushing loss, which closely mirrored their earlier 3-0 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool, Ten Hag spoke to Sky Sports about his recent discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
He shared insights into the ongoing conversations aimed at addressing United’s current struggles.
“We’re talking continually, but we are talking about how we can improve the process,” he explained.
“We are all very impatient and our fans are and they are entitled to but we are definitely as well.”
“We want to win every game,” he continued.
“And when we are losing, everyone is disappointed, frustrated, but it’s also our fuel to get better.”
When asked how his team can recover in the crucial upcoming matches against Porto and Aston Villa, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of unity and focus.
He acknowledged the need for the players to rally together and regain their confidence, stating that preparation and a strong mindset will be vital in turning their season around.
“The most important [issue] to address is one you always need, to keep the belief,” he said.
“[To] stay in the game, you need to keep the belief so that’s the most important message that we have to give because if you lose your faith you lose everything isn’t it?
“We have to keep going and stick to the plan and move on.”
