Pep Lijnders has announced that Stefan Bajcetic will face a fine of approximately £400 after arriving late to Red Bull Salzburg‘s pre-match training session.
The Liverpool loanee, currently spending the season with the Austrian club, experienced difficulties locating his boots, which resulted in his tardiness to the session on Monday afternoon.
“It will be around €500 (£416.72) the day before the game,” said Lijnders in Monday’s pre-match press conference, confirming the time-keeping mistake would cost the Spaniard.
Austrian publication Salzburg 24, present at the training facility on Monday, reports that Stefan Bajcetic’s late arrival was received in good spirits by his teammates.
They noted that “the entire team was visibly happy and politely thanked the 19-year-old” for the fine, which will be allocated for a future team trip.
Bajcetic joined Red Bull Salzburg on a season-long loan in August after a challenging 18 months at Liverpool, plagued by injuries.
The Spanish youth international had emerged as a key player for the Reds in the latter half of the 2022/23 season but was limited to just one start last term due to a serious calf injury.
His move to the Austrian club allowed him to reunite with several familiar faces, including Pep Lijnders, Vitor Matos, Andreas Kornmayer, and former academy teammate Bobby Clark.
However, Bajcetic was left on the bench for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Brest, which ended in a surprising 4-0 victory for the away side, with goals from Mahdi Camara, Mathias Pereira Lage, and a brace from Abdallah Sima.
Despite starting the match on the bench, Stefan Bajcetic made his appearance, replacing Lucas Gourna-Douath in the 77th minute, with the score already at 4-0.
