Arsenal and Man City in race to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz is regarded as one the best talents in the world

Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has become a coveted target for several top clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester City among those realistically eyeing a potential signing.

Widely regarded as one of the best German talents of his generation, Wirtz played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s undefeated run to the Bundesliga title last season.

At just 21 years old, the midfielder is attracting interest from elite clubs across Europe as he continues to develop and is seen as a key figure in Germany’s footballing future.

According to German publication BILD, Leverkusen may find it challenging to retain Wirtz beyond this season, with four clubs reportedly in contention for his signature.

Premier League giants Manchester City and Arsenal are believed to have a strong chance of securing Wirtz, alongside La Liga powerhouses Real Madrid and their Bundesliga rivals, Bayern Munich.

Bayer Leverkusen are fully aware of Wirtz’s immense talent and has set a hefty price tag of approximately €150 million (£126.2m/$165.5m) in a bid to deter potential suitors.

This price tag could make it difficult for Barcelona, who have also expressed interest in the young star, to pursue him due to their ongoing financial struggles.

Florian Wirtz aims to enhance his value among clubs this season with another title challenge in the Bundesliga and a deep run in the Champions League.

He is set to return to action when Xabi Alonso’s side faces Holstein Kiel on Saturday, October 5.
