Didier Deschamps reveals why he left Kylian Mbappe out of France squad
Kylian Mbappe has only just returned from a thigh injury that sidelined him for several key matches
France manager Didier Deschamps has clarified why Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has been omitted from the squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Mbappe’s absence surprised many, especially as he recently featured in Real Madrid’s Champions League defeat to Lille on Wednesday.
However, the forward has only just returned from a thigh injury that sidelined him for several key matches, including last weekend’s Madrid derby.
With La Liga entering a two-week international break following this weekend’s fixtures, Mbappe will stay in Madrid to continue his rehabilitation at the club’s Valdebebas training facility.
This additional period of rest is seen as crucial for Mbappé to fully recover and regain peak fitness without the demands of international duty.
“I spoke with Kylian about the situation, which is still uncertain after coming on as a substitute on Wednesday. He has a match on Saturday and there are questions,” Deschamps told reporters.
“He has a problem which is not serious but he needs treatment to recover properly.
“I am not here to take risks. That is why Kylian is not here.”
“I have no doubt about Kylian’s commitment but he was not in the best condition during the last gathering,” the head coach added.
Didier Deschamps has called up a new wave of talent, including Christopher Nkunku, Michael Olise, and Bradley Barcola, for the upcoming matches.
Les Bleus will face Israel in Budapest before traveling to Brussels to take on Belgium on October 14.
Meanwhile, it remains uncertain whether Kylian Mbappe will be included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for Real Madrid’s next fixture against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday evening.
