This unusual contract situation has raised concerns among fans and analysts, including former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Carragher has voiced his worries about the ongoing negotiations, stating that the longer the situation remains unresolved, the less confident he is about Alexander-Arnold staying at Anfield.

While Real Madrid continue to monitor the situation, they are not currently in negotiations with the player.

Romano emphasised that it is Liverpool’s responsibility to take the lead, as they are the ones in active communication with Alexander-Arnold.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Since March, the situation has not changed.

“Real Madrid maintain their interest in the situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold.”

“What I’m told is that today, Real Madrid are not negotiating with Alexander-Arnold – they are not discussing terms of a contract, salary, or project.”

“We’re not in the advanced stages of the story, but the interest of Real Madrid is something that has been mentioned for months.”

“To see what’s going to happen this summer depends on Liverpool because they have the priority and are talking to Alexander-Arnold, and we will see what they decide together.”

Liverpool must do everything possible to retain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in the world.

The 25 years old has made an impressive 318 appearances for the Reds, contributing 19 goals and 83 assists.

Recently, he expressed his desire to remain with the club beyond the current season, although he acknowledged that the final decision ultimately lies with the club’s management.

“I have always said I want to captain the club,” said Alexander-Arnold.

“That is a goal of mine, whether that happens is out of my hands.

“I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say.”

He added: “The most important thing is always trophies.

“I want to win trophies.

“We were close to the title last season and we got a cup.

“The (quadruple) was on for a while I suppose.

“This season we are looking really good, it is still early days, but we need a lot of consistency.

“It will be difficult but we are looking to win as many trophies as we can.”
