Mohamed Salah expressed his satisfaction with what he called a “very important” victory as Liverpool secured a 2-0 win over Bologna in the Champions League.
Salah played a key role in both goals during Wednesday night’s match at Anfield, first providing an excellent cross that set up Alexis Mac Allister for an early opener.
Bologna had opportunities to respond, including hitting both the crossbar and post, but a stunning curling effort from Salah 15 minutes before the final whistle sealed the win.
The result ensured that Arne Slot’s side maintained their 100% record in the group stage.
“It’s a very important win,” Salah, who became the first Liverpool player ever to score in five consecutive home European Cup matches, told UEFA.com.
“It’s a tough team; tactically, they are unbelievable. I’m glad we managed to win the game.
“It’s normal [that Bologna had good spells], they’re a team playing in the Champions League.
“It’s a tough team.
“They had a very good season last season.
“The manager spoke at half-time, and as players we also spoke together.
“We said to stick together and try to play our football, and I think that’s what we did in the second half.”
Liverpool are among seven clubs that have won both of their opening two matches in the revamped league phase, where only the top eight out of 36 teams secure a spot in the last 16.
On building momentum in the competition, Mohamed Salah added: “Hopefully.
“It’s too early so we don’t have to put pressure on ourselves, we just have to take it game by game and see what will happen.”
