Man United suffer injury blow as Alejandro Garnacho pulls out of Argentina squad with knee injury
Garnacho reportedly felt discomfort in his left knee
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has withdrawn from the Argentina squad after a knee issue emerged.
According to TYC Sports, the 20-year-old will not travel to Miami for Argentina’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers after being removed from Lionel Scaloni’s list of call-ups.
Garnacho reportedly experienced discomfort in his left knee, prompting Manchester United to make the decision to keep him from joining the national team.
The highly-rated winger has been a key figure for Erik ten Hag this season, featuring in 11 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
The Premier League club is keen for Alejandro Garnacho to use the international break to recover from the injury and be fit for their upcoming fixtures.
While Garnacho will miss Argentina’s upcoming matches, Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister has travelled to Miami despite picking up a knock during his club’s recent match against Crystal Palace.
Mac Allister was replaced by Dominik Szoboszlai at halftime, and manager Slot later confirmed that the World Cup winner was taken off as a precaution.
The former Brighton midfielder has since traveled to Florida to join his teammates ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia.
The 25-year-old will undergo an assessment by the Argentina medical team before Thursday’s match against Venezuela at Estadio Monumental de Maturin.
On social media Saturday evening, Mac Allister seemed to confirm that the groin issue is not serious.
He said: “Great win for the team today, these are the moments that make us stronger!
“I felt a slight discomfort during the game, but nothing that will stop me.
“Now fully focused on what’s ahead.”
The reigning world champions will face Venezuela away on Thursday before hosting Bolivia on October 16.
