Noni Madueke has been declared fit for England’s upcoming Nations League matches after an injury scare during Chelsea’s Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The winger caused concern when he had to be carried off the field by two members of Chelsea’s medical staff following a foot injury during a chaotic scuffle late in the game.
However, after being assessed, Madueke has been cleared to join Lee Carsley’s squad for their matches against Greece and Finland.
Madueke’s strong performances for Chelsea this season have earned him a call-up to the national team.
He made his senior debut for England in September, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 victory over Finland, where he assisted Harry Kane’s second goal.
Before his senior call-up, Madueke was a key player for Carsley’s Under-21 side.
In Sunday’s match against Forest, he scored the equaliser and celebrated by running towards Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.
This came after Maresca had playfully pointed out that Noni Madueke hadn’t scored since his hat-trick against Wolves in August.
In other news, Harry Kane has also been passed fit to represent England, despite suffering a knock during Bayern Munich’s clash with Eintracht Frankfurt over the weekend.
However, Lee Carsley will be without Kobbie Mainoo, Ezri Konsa, and Morgan Gibbs-White, all of whom have withdrawn from the squad due to injuries. Carsley has opted not to call up any replacements.
Mainoo played 85 minutes against Aston Villa on Sunday but had been subbed off in the first half of Manchester United’s match against Tottenham the previous week, likely due to a hamstring issue. His withdrawal is believed to be precautionary. Konsa’s absence is due to a hamstring injury he sustained early in Aston Villa’s game against Manchester United.
