Ibrahima Konate closing in on signing new Liverpool deal
Ibrahima Konate has been one of the standout players for Liverpool this season
Liverpool are optimistic about extending the stay of Ibrahima Konate at Anfield, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old is currently in negotiations with the club over a new contract.
Romano posted on X: “Liverpool are confident to complete agreement on new deal with Ibrahima Konaté soon as talks are now progressing well.
“He’s expected to sign new contract after Quansah, as crucial part of club’s project and really appreciated by Arne Slot.”
Konate’s existing deal with Liverpool runs until 2026, but despite being a key figure in Arne Slot’s defence, the centre-back is among the squad’s lower earners.
The Merseyside club aims to address this by offering him a long-term contract extension with a significant pay rise.
Talks between Liverpool and Konate’s representatives are said to be progressing well, with both parties nearing a full agreement.
The defender is reportedly excited by the club’s vision under new head coach Arne Slot, who is a strong admirer of Konate’s talents.
The former RB Leipzig star has made an impressive start to the season and remains integral to Liverpool’s plans.
Signed from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £36 million, Ibrahima Konate quickly surpassed Joel Matip to become Van Dijk’s preferred partner in central defence.
Despite a challenging 2022-23 campaign due to injuries and a dip in form, Ibrahima Konate has bounced back strongly, with he and Van Dijk statistically standing out as one of the Premier League’s top defensive partnerships this season.
