Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be anxiously hoping that Bukayo Saka’s second-half substitution for England was merely a precautionary measure.
Saka was substituted in the 51st minute of the Three Lions’ match against Greece, making way for Noni Madueke.
The Arsenal winger had started the game but was forced off after Greece took a surprising lead, with Vangelis Pavlidis scoring following a defensive lapse by England.
As Bukayo Saka left the field, he appeared to be clutching his right hamstring, walking alongside two members of England’s medical staff.
If he were to be sidelined, it would mark the second consecutive international window in which an Arsenal player has suffered an injury.
Gunners captain Martin Odegaard sustained an ankle injury while on international duty with Norway during the previous break and has missed the last seven matches for Arsenal.
However, he was recently seen running on a treadmill, giving fans hope that his return is near.
Additionally, summer signing Riccardo Calafiori suffered a calf injury during Italy’s match against France last month but only missed the north London derby.
Bukayo Saka has been a key player for Arsenal this season, starting every game across all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been in excellent form, contributing seven assists in the Premier League from as many matches.
In Arsenal’s last game before the international break, Saka delivered a man-of-the-match performance, helping the team secure a 3-1 victory over Southampton.
He played a pivotal role in all three goals, scoring one and assisting two others, ensuring that the Gunners went into the break sitting third in the league table with 17 points.
