Darwin Nunez has scored one league goal for Liverpool this season

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool should be regarded as “easily one of the favourites” for the Premier League title if Arne Slot can help Darwin Nunez score more consistently.

The Reds currently sit at the top of the league table after seven matches, having conceded only two goals.

However, Nunez has contributed just one of their 13 goals so far, which came during a 3-0 victory against Bournemouth at Anfield last month.

Nunez’s strike against the Cherries was voted the September Goal of the Month by the club’s official channels, but it remains his only goal this season, as Diogo Jota has been preferred by Slot as the first-choice center forward.

Wright, who scored 180 goals for Arsenal, believes that if Nunez can find his scoring form in his third season at Anfield, it will give Slot’s league leaders a significant advantage.

Since joining from Benfica in the summer of 2022, Núñez has netted a total of 34 goals.

Speaking on his Wrighty’s House podcast, the former England international said: “Can you imagine if Nunez could score consistently?

“That’s a lot of money to play for a squad player.

“I see Jota as the main man; [Nunez] is an impact player, and that’s a lot of money for an impact player.

“I’ve seen enough of him now.”

Ian Wright added: “I thought at some stage it would click for him, but it’s not clicked in for him.

“If it clicked in for him then Liverpool are definitely easily favourites.

“Easily one of the favourites, Liverpool with a firing Darwin Nunez.

“I’m telling you, it’s a massive problem.”
