Manchester United forward Amad Diallo is expected to return to England after withdrawing from the Ivory Coast squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The 22-year-old was expected to play a crucial role in the double-header against Sierra Leone, with the first match scheduled for Friday, October 11, and the return leg just a few days later on Tuesday.

Amad’s withdrawal comes after he complained of illness while in the national team camp.

This adds to United’s growing list of players who have pulled out of international duty, as he becomes the fourth player to do so.

Noussair Mazraoui, Alejandro Garnacho, and Kobbie Mainoo have also withdrawn due to various fitness concerns.

Garnacho and Mainoo have been dealing with long-standing injuries, while summer signing Mazraoui had to exit United’s goalless draw against Aston Villa at halftime last weekend.

Additionally, Harry Maguire is facing time on the sidelines after picking up an injury during the same match against Villa.

Despite his absence, Amad has made notable contributions in recent victories against Zambia and Chad during the September international window.

His departure will create a significant void for manager Emerse Fae, although Ivory Coast currently leads Group F of the qualifiers with six points from two matches.

In the Premier League, Amad Diallo has played six matches, contributing one goal and one assist, providing United with much-needed creativity.

With a Premier League clash against Brentford on the horizon, it remains to be seen if Amad can regain his fitness before October 19.
