Fernandes is yet to score for Manchester United this season

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted his frustration at not having found the back of the net this season, as he aims to end his current goal drought.

Despite making 10 appearances for United in all competitions so far, Fernandes has yet to score this campaign, although he did find the net for Portugal in a 2-1 victory over Scotland last month.

The midfielder has come close, hitting the crossbar twice during United’s goalless draw against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

However, Fernandes acknowledges that he needs to shoulder the responsibility for his failure to convert those chances into goals.

Fernandes is currently sitting on 79 goals for United in all competitions, with his next strike set to make him only the sixth overseas player in the club’s history to reach the 80-goal mark.

He would join an elite group that includes Eric Cantona, Anthony Martial, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Reflecting on his recent form and the pressure to score, Fernandes said: “As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there, and make sure the goals start coming again.

“I have to take responsibility for that too, because I’m a midfielder who scores a lot of goals, and over the years, I’ve always been at a very high level in terms of goals and I have to live up to that, with those expectations.

“I also have my own standards, I don’t hold back on that.

“I haven’t scored for the club yet and I hope that as soon as I get there I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level.”

Portugal will travel to Poland for their Nations League clash on Saturday night, followed by a trip to Hampden Park to face Scotland on Tuesday.

Bruno Fernandes recently admitted that he has experienced one of the toughest spells of his Manchester United career.

The United captain was sent off in back-to-back matches, first in a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham and then in a 3-3 draw against Porto just four days later.

Although the red card from the Spurs game was eventually overturned, Fernandes has continued to struggle with form and confidence.

“Tough moment as a team and personally for me, one of the hardest. Almost 5 years at the club with ups and downs, good and bad moments,” Bruno Fernandes posted on Instagram.

“Personally, I have always had challenges and adversities throughout my career and something that’s never happened was that I go silent or hide myself from responsibilities in difficult moments.

“I know it sounds cliche and most of you United fans will be tired of it, but no one is more disappointed than myself with my own moment.

“Even through this moment, I appreciate all of you that had positive messages of belief in me and the team.”

Manchester United will look to end their five-match winless run when they face Brentford in the Premier League next Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side currently sit 14th in the table, having collected only eight points from their first seven games of the season.
