Chelsea reveal stance on Mykhailo Mudryk’s future amid January exit rumours

The Ukrainian international joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in early 2023

Chelsea reportedly have no intention of offloading Mykhailo Mudryk during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Ukrainian international joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in early 2023 for a hefty £88.5million (€105m/$109m) fee.

However, he has struggled to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge thus far.

Despite links to a potential move to Marseille, journalist Ben Jacobs claims that Chelsea are not considering letting the 23-year-old leave in January, in any form.

Head coach Enzo Maresca is said to be challenging Mudryk to improve, still viewing him as an important part of the team’s future.

Mudryk’s Chelsea career has been underwhelming to date. In his 66 appearances, he has managed to score just seven goals and provide seven assists – well below expectations for a player signed in a big-money deal.

With a contract that runs until 2031, Mudryk’s future at Stamford Bridge could be problematic if his form doesn’t pick up, potentially turning him into a depreciating asset that might prove difficult to move on.

This season, Mudryk has made eight appearances in all competitions, starting five of them.

However, he has largely been deployed in cup matches rather than in the Premier League, where he has just one start to his name.

According to Jacobs, Mudryk is offering “strong competition” to Jadon Sancho for a starting spot under Maresca, and he will be hoping to secure more minutes in Chelsea’s upcoming fixture against league leaders Liverpool on October 20.
